As Mother’s Day approaches, I wanted to take time to give a shout out to all the Moms out there, especially the pet Moms. Whether you are the mother to two legged kids, four legged kids, or both, you have a tough job! Its no secret though that being a pet Mom takes an extra special caregiver because our pets depend on us for their entire life cycle and survival. They never fly the nest, so to speak, to live on their own. Whether we adopt our pets or care for them from birth, they need us, depend on us, and love us unconditionally and we need them, depend on them, and love them unconditionally back. I consider myself blessed to have experienced this first hand. If I am upset about something, my three dogs know right away and gather right by my side. It is comforting to know that they are always there for me no matter what. I don’t even have to say a word. They know. How can this be though? Theoretically, I truly believe our pets have a higher level of intellect than humans do. I swear my dogs can read my mind! (another blog topic for another day :). They also have an amazing intuition about people. For example, pets seem to automatically gravitate and seek out the one person in the family who is the “nurturer”, and wa-lah, that person is now deemed the pet Mom whether he or she wanted the job or not. If you are that person, you can thank your awesome innate nurturing skills. Oh, and if you think you can hide these skills from your pets, think again! They are too smart for that. So, to all the pet Moms out there…thank you and keep doing what you are doing. We know that you take on this job lovingly, willingly, and unselfishly. Know that your fur babies love you to the moon and back a trillion times. Happy Mother’s Day!
